One of the most unique features in Painter X3 are the Patterns here our some of my customize Patterns. There are many brushes and two effect in Painter that use Pattern in a very special way different from many other digital painting software on the market try playing around with Patterns yourself and see what unique artwork you can come up with.

This was done with the same pattern but different brushes the  first pattern on top was done with Graphic Paintbrush, Pattern Pen Masked, Pattern Chalk and the last pattern is a different pattern and come from the original chain photograph in which I made the previous patterns from done with the Pattern Pen.

Auto Select is a great effect that works with Patterns it is found in your menu under Select this works only if paint is supply to the canvas once Auto select is chosen in the drop down box choose 3D Brush Strokes then click OK.

You should  see little marching ants of your Pattern selection you can invert your selection if you choose.

Here I invert my selection then hide it using Hide  Marquee  then use Fill found in Edit menu then fill in the pattern with color.

Then I invert my selection again with the Soft Pastel brush and I began painting around the skull pattern with two different Paper textures. 

Another great effect found in Painter that uses Patterns is Apply Surface Textures found in your menu under Effect in your drop down box choose 3D Brush Strokes play around with the setting for your desire effect then click OK.

This is what I achieve adjusting the setting in Apply Surface Textures.
