My new favorite brush found in Corel Painter X3 and some old favorites. The Scratchboard tool is a excellent brush for general painting I use this brush to paint Meghan Rath portrait done in a earlier post. The Scatter brush is awesome but only work when paint is already apply to the canvas.

  1. Dear Ralph,
I use Painter x3 too, but i've got a problem with the scratchboard tool. If i change the direction of my stroke it changes its way. That's good, but at low opacity it makes this dark areas (on Your reference image too). Sometimes it's good, but many timesisn't. I've tried to modify the brush settings, but i couldn't switch off this features. Can You maybe tell me how can i?
    MAny thanks for Your help,
    Tom

(P.S.: I've tried Painter X too, and I didn't have this problem. But of course i want to use the Painter x3. It's great,)

  2. The Scratchboard tool was made that way in Painter you can reset your brushes in Painter with the Reset Tool found in the Property bar right next to the Brush Selector bar or go to your Menu Bar under Brushes and click Restore Default Variant. Now if you don't want your Scratchboard tool to not look like my reference image try playing around with the Dab Profile found in your Menu bar under Windows under Brush Control Panel.
